Myth: put your category SEO text up top to help rankings
'Q: My category intro paragraph is below the products. Should I move it above the grid for SEO?'
Short answer: No — top placement doesn't help rankings, and it hurts the shopping experience.
The longer version: there's a stubborn belief that content higher in the HTML or higher on the page ranks better. Google reads the whole page; a relevant paragraph below the product grid is weighted the same as one above it. What does change is user behavior — a shopper landing on a category wants to see products immediately, not a 300-word essay. Pushing the grid down increases bounce and slows people reaching what they came for.
Keep a short intro (1-2 lines) above the grid if you like, and place the longer descriptive/FAQ content below the products where it informs without blocking.
Rule of thumb: products first, prose second. Position helps users, not crawlers.
Follow-up: yes, you can absolutely rank category pages without any intro text at all — internal links and product relevance often carry them.
