Myth: regular events keep a community engaged
Live events have a brutal attendance ceiling — usually 2-5% of members show up live — and the energy evaporates when the call ends. If the community only feels alive during events, you've built an event series, not a community. The between-times are where retention lives.
The correction — Event-to-Thread Conversion SOP:
☐ Before: open a pre-thread where members post questions (captures the 95% who won't attend)
☐ During: assign someone to capture 3 key takeaways live
☐ After (within 2h): post recap + recording + the takeaways as a permanent thread
☐ End the recap with one async question to continue the conversation
☐ Measure thread engagement, not just live attendance
The event is the spark. The thread is the fire. Always convert live energy into async, searchable activity.
Save this for your next launch.
