The data-portability drill every host should pass
They told you: "your data is always yours." Yours to look at, theirs to lock in their format.
— Export a full account backup and open it. Is it a standard cPanel archive or a proprietary blob?
— Pull databases as raw .sql, not just a panel-only restore point.
— Download email as standard Maildir/IMAP, not a format only they can read.
— Time it. If a 2GB export takes 40 minutes throttled, imagine migrating 20GB.
Follow the money: friction at the exit is a retention feature, not a bug.
Reality: real ownership is measured at the door, not in the brochure.
