Most influencer affiliate deals fail not because of bad traffic — they fail because the creator and the brand have completely different definitions of "conversion."
The brand wants sales. The creator thinks reach counts. Neither communicates this upfront.
Before signing anything, align on three things: what triggers the commission (click, lead, sale, subscription), the attribution window (7 days? 30?), and how disputed conversions get resolved.
A 30-second conversation on these three points prevents 90% of the payment disputes I've seen. The affiliate manager who builds this into their onboarding flow keeps creators longer and runs cleaner programs.
If you're a creator: ask for the tracking documentation before you post. If you're a brand: send it without being asked. That single gesture signals you've done this before.
