The Tier-1 obsession that quietly bled a budget dry
Myth: "Run dating on US/UK/CA or don't bother — Tier-3 traffic is garbage that never pays."
Everyone in the chats treats Tier-1 as the only adult table. A buddy ran a SOI mainstream offer split US vs. Philippines, $40 CPL vs. $3 CPL, same creative pack, 30 days each, $6k per arm.
US arm: 142 leads, $5,680 spend, advertiser scrubbed 31% as duplicate/low-intent, net payout $4,930. Negative.
PH arm: 1,810 leads, $5,430 spend, scrub 19%, payout on a lower-but-real $4.10 backend rate = $6,010. The volume let him find two converting angles in week one instead of guessing on 9 leads a day.
The US numbers weren't bad because Tier-3 is good — they were bad because thin volume meant he couldn't optimize before the budget ran out. Cheap clicks bought him data; expensive clicks bought him a small sample and a confident wrong conclusion.
Reality: Tier-3 didn't "win" — it just gave enough events to actually optimize, which Tier-1 priced him out of.
