My retention was stuck at 38% and the advice everywhere was: volume fixes everything, post daily, let the algorithm sort it. So I posted 30 videos in 30 days. Same weak hook style on all of them. Average 3s retention stayed 69%. I'd just made 30 copies of the same mistake.
Then I stopped, posted nothing for 4 days, and rewrote my hook approach around one rule: every opener had to name a specific number in the first line, like "This single line got 1,100 replies."
Next 5 videos averaged 83% at 3s.
Views per post went from 30k to 105k.
The lesson: volume multiplies whatever you already do. If the hook is broken, posting more just scales the failure. Fix the open first, then scale.
