Q: People say bump data retention to 14 months or you lose your historical reports — urgent?
A: Mostly myth, and it scares people into the wrong worry. Retention only touches one type of data.
— Admin → Data Settings → Data Retention affects Explorations and user-level data only.
— Standard aggregated reports (Acquisition, Engagement, etc.) are NOT limited by this setting — they go back to property creation.
— So 'losing history' means losing the ability to build custom Explorations beyond the window, not your dashboards.
Still, set it to the 14-month max — it's free and forward-looking.
TL;DR: Retention caps Explorations, not standard reports. Set 14 months, but don't panic about old dashboards.
