The recipe for a stat page reporters can't ignore

The recipe for a stat page reporters can't ignore
A SaaS client wanted backlinks but kept publishing opinion. We swapped opinion for a number machine, and earned 240 links in a quarter.

The build, step by step. We picked one question journalists already ask — "how much does X cost in 2024?" — and committed to owning the answer. We gathered first-party data from the product's own usage logs, anonymized, so the stat existed nowhere else. We wrote it as a single quotable sentence at the top: "The average team now spends 6.2 hours a week on this." We added one clean chart, downloadable, with our URL baked into the image. Then we built a "methodology" section so reporters could trust it in thirty seconds.

Within weeks, writers were citing "6.2 hours" without us pitching them. A trade editor called it "the stat everyone's quoting and nobody can replace."

That's the whole trick: a linkable asset isn't a blog post, it's a fact that has no substitute.

Lesson: Don't build content people read. Build a number people have to cite.
