An unlinked mention vs. a linked one: which to chase
Sometimes an article quotes you but doesn't link to your site. Other times you get a proper link. Both have value, but you handle them differently.
1. Linked mention — the prize. It sends readers and helps your site's reputation. Save the link, log it, celebrate.
2. Unlinked mention — still useful as proof you've been quoted, but it leaks no visitors. Here's the move: politely email the reporter, thank them, and ask if they'd add a link to your name. Many will.
Think of it like being mentioned at a party vs. being introduced. The mention is nice; the introduction actually connects people to you.
The lesson: don't ignore unlinked mentions. A friendly thank-you note is the cheapest way to upgrade one into a real link.
Try this today: search your name plus the outlet, and check if your last mention was linked or not.
