Tracking pitches in a spreadsheet vs. a built-in tool

Tracking pitches in a spreadsheet vs. a built-in tool

After a few weeks of pitching, you'll lose track of what you sent. You need a record. Two options: a simple spreadsheet you build, or a tracking feature inside a paid service.

1. Spreadsheet — free, fully yours, works across every tool you use. Columns: date, outlet, query, did it run, link earned. Total control.
2. Built-in tracker — automatic, but only sees pitches sent through that one service. Convenient, yet blind to your social and direct-email outreach.

Think of it like a personal notebook vs. an app that only logs one store's purchases. The notebook captures your whole life.

For beginners: start with the spreadsheet. It teaches you your own hit rate and works no matter how many tools you add later.

Try this today: make a five-column sheet and log every pitch you've sent this week.
