Exclusivity: accept a category lockout vs stay open

Exclusivity: accept a category lockout vs stay open

Exclusivity has a price. Most creators give it away for free — don't.

— Accept exclusivity: you can't promote competitors for the window. Take it only when the brand pays a premium for it as a separate line item. It removes future income, so it must add present income.
— Stay non-exclusive: keep the freedom to take competing deals. Default position. Costs you nothing.

Pricing framework for an exclusivity ask:
— Estimate income you'd forgo from competitor deals during the window.
— Add a premium on top (you're taking on risk + reducing optionality).
— That total is your exclusivity line item — never folded into the base post fee.

Decision rule:
— If the window is over 30 days then price it steeply or decline — categories move fast.
— If the brand won't pay for it then it's not exclusive, full stop.
— If the category is your main revenue then cap the window hard regardless of fee.

Checklist: window length, category definition (narrow it), premium quantified, separate line item.

Definition of done: every exclusivity day is paid for and bounded in writing.
