Myth: a great welcome message drives activation
The welcome message is read, not acted on. Activation comes from a first task, not a first greeting. Replace the wall-of-text welcome with a single triggered action.
The correction — 3-Touch Onboarding Loop (SOP = standard operating procedure):
☐ Touch 1 (minute 0): one question that requires a reply — 'Which problem brought you here: A, B, or C?'
☐ Touch 2 (hour 24): route them to ONE channel based on their answer, by name
☐ Touch 3 (day 3): ask them to post their first thing with a fill-in-the-blank prompt
Measure 'posted within 72h', not 'read welcome'. A member who completes one action has a 3-4x higher 30-day retention than one who only reads.
Save this for your next launch.
