I scaled into Tier 3 and the payout math quietly inverted
The ROI percentage looked identical. The dollars told a different story.
The setup
— A dating offer running in the US at $6.80 payout, ROI ~50%.
— Traffic costs were climbing, so I opened India, Indonesia, Philippines to "scale cheap."
The move
Duplicated everything, swapped GEO targeting, kept the same lander and angle.
The numbers (illustrative)
— Tier 3 CPC dropped from $0.21 to $0.04. Felt like a cheat code.
— Payout also dropped: $0.90 instead of $6.80.
— ROI held near 48%, but daily profit per 1,000 clicks fell from $34 to $4.10.
The lesson
Percentage ROI is GEO-blind. Cheap traffic in low-payout GEOs can show a beautiful ratio while generating pocket change. You can run a "50% ROI campaign" all day and still not cover your time.
What I'd do differently
Judge scaling decisions on absolute profit per 1,000 impressions, not ROI %. Tier 3 is a volume game that only works when you can push enormous traffic. If you can't, the percentage is a vanity number.
