Classic dayparting advice: weekends convert worse, so pause. I paused for months and only later saw what I'd given away.
The setup
Finance offer. Weekend conversion rate WAS lower, so I dutifully paused Sat-Sun.
The move
One quarter I left it running on weekends to collect data and actually measured cost per acquisition, not conversion rate.
The numbers
Weekend conversion rate: 1.6% vs 2.3% weekday — yes, lower. But weekend CPM was 35% cheaper because big advertisers paused. Net cost per acquisition: $31 weekend vs $38 weekday. The "bad" days were my cheapest customers. Pausing cost me roughly $6,000 in missed efficient volume over the year.
The lesson
A lower conversion RATE doesn't mean higher conversion COST. When competitors flee, cheaper auctions can more than offset softer intent.
What I'd do differently
I judge dayparts on cost per acquisition only, never on conversion rate alone. The crowd's weekend pause is exactly why weekends were profitable for me. Figures illustrative; the auction dynamic is real.
