Google Optimize is dead. Here's what I actually replaced it with
When GO sunset, everyone screamed 'go to GA4 + Firebase.' I tried. Hated it.
Three weeks of testing replacements:
— GrowthBook: free, open-source, feature-flag native. Won for my dev-heavy stack.
— PostHog: bundles analytics + flags + tests. Won if you have zero existing analytics.
— VWO/Convert: paid, but no engineering lift.
Gut call: GrowthBook. I already had a warehouse, and free beats $$ when you're bootstrapped.
The trap nobody mentions: don't replace GO with a 'visual editor' tool if your old tests were query-param based. The migration eats a week.
Still on GO ghosts? Go audit which tests are silently not running. Report back.
