Case #038: The day the account died
This is a post-mortem on a $9,000 lesson.
A grey-area nutra campaign was the best thing in the account: $12,000 spent, $21,000 back, 75% ROI over three weeks. Then on a Tuesday morning the ad account was disabled, the cloaker page was flagged, and the entire structure vanished — campaigns, creatives, pixel history, all of it.
The direct loss was the suspended balance and the day's frozen revenue, roughly $9,000 in motion that I couldn't recover or recreate. But the real damage was structural: every learning the pixel had accumulated, gone. The campaign couldn't be rebuilt because the asset that made it work — three weeks of optimization data — died with the account.
The mistake, in hindsight, was concentration. One account, one cloaker, one pixel, one point of failure. The campaign was profitable and I treated its survival as guaranteed.
What I rebuilt afterward, deliberately:
— three parallel accounts running the same offer at one-third scale each
— blended across them the offer still did $7,400 spent, $11,800 back, 59% ROI
— lower peak, but no single ban could ever zero me again
The diversified version made less money and let me sleep.
The lesson: a profitable account isn't an asset, it's a liability you haven't lost yet — never let one ban be able to delete your whole P&L.
