The cap that forced me from CPA to revshare — and paid off

The cap that forced me from CPA to revshare — and paid off

My best gambling campaign got capped at 30 conversions a day. The cap turned out to be a gift.

— The setup: gambling CPA, $45 per first-deposit, daily cap of 30, I was hitting it by 2pm and shutting off.
— The move: I asked the affiliate manager for revshare on the overflow traffic instead of leaving it dark after the cap filled.
— The numbers: CPA portion stayed steady — 30 x $45 = $1,350/day. The post-cap revshare traffic, the stuff I used to waste, started returning $620/day in month one and climbed to $1,100/day by month three as deposits recurred. Same ad spend (~$900/day). Before: +50% on CPA only. After: +175% blended once revshare matured.

— The lesson: a cap isn't a wall, it's a signal to change your monetization model for the overflow. CPA pays now; revshare pays a curve. Running both stacked them.

What I'd do differently: Ask for the revshare deal in month one instead of month three. I left roughly two months of compounding revshare on the table — call it $30k+ over the campaign's life. Figures illustrative; the cap-to-revshare flip is a real lever managers will give you if you ask.
