What if your subject line just asked a question?
A subject line is the one sentence people see before they decide to open. Think of it as the title on the envelope.
Why it matters: a small bakery's newsletter was getting opened by only about 18 of every 100 people. They wanted more.
What they tested over four sends:
— Step 1: kept everything else identical (same time, same list, same content)
— Step 2: ✅ changed only the subject line from a statement ("Our new fall menu") to a question ("Guess what just came out of the oven?")
— Step 3: compared the open rates side by side
Result: the question version was opened by 27 of every 100 people instead of 18. Same email, just a curious title.
Tiny homework: rewrite your next subject line as a question and send it. One small swap.
