— Zero personalization: 3.6%
— One specific reference (their actual page/post): 8.3%
— Two references: 8.9%
— Three+ references: 8.1% (reads as research-stalking)
The jump is entirely between zero and one. The first concrete, specific line — proving you read their work — does all the lifting. Stacking more references costs minutes and adds nothing, then backfires past three.
Invest in one sharp, specific line per email and stop — deeper personalization is wasted labor.
