Two jobs your ad must do, in order
Let's separate two things beginners blur together: stopping the scroll and earning the action.
Think of every ad as a two-part relay.
— Job one (the thumb-stop): get them to pause and watch. Measured by hook rate and view time.
— Job two (the conversion): get the watcher to click and act. Measured by CTR and CPA.
Why the order matters: if job one fails, job two never gets a chance. A brilliant offer hidden after a boring opening still dies.
How to diagnose with this lens:
— Low hook rate? It's a job-one problem — fix the opening.
— Good hook rate but few clicks? Job-two problem — fix the offer, caption, or call-to-action.
This tells you where to look instead of changing everything.
Try this: read one ad's hook rate and CTR side by side, then decide which job is failing. Don't worry if it's both — fix job one first, always.
