Q: Everyone says 'UGC' and 'shoppable content' like they're the same thing. Are they?
A: They overlap but aren't identical. UGC (user-generated content = videos and photos made by creators or customers, in their own voice) is about authenticity and trust. Shoppable content is any post with a working buy mechanism — product tags, a pinned item, in-app checkout. A polished brand ad can be shoppable without being UGC, and a great UGC video isn't shoppable at all if nobody attached a tag.
The money is at the intersection: UGC that's also tagged. The authentic creator voice earns the tap, the tag captures it. UGC alone sends people to Google, where you lose them.
Also worth knowing: when you license a creator's UGC to run as your own shoppable ad, confirm usage rights in writing. Tagging someone else's footage as your ad without permission is a real legal problem.
