People run quiz pre-landers because "engagement." Real reason to run them: they pre-segment and pre-commit before the offer page.
The mechanics that matter:
— Every answer is a micro-yes that builds commitment (foot-in-the-door, not entertainment).
— Use answers to fork to different angle copy on the offer page — age, goal, past-attempt.
— Last question should be the soft buy-in ("ready to see your result?"), not a demographic throwaway.
A 4-question quiz that forks the offer copy beats a 12-question quiz that just dumps everyone onto one page.
Quiz to segment, not to amuse.
