SOP #50 — Domain History Audit
A domain carries baggage from before you and before the seller. Pull its full record.
1. Check the Wayback Machine. Was it a different site before? A casino or pharma past poisons trust.
2. Look up registration age and any ownership-transfer gaps. A dropped-then-re-registered domain lost its history.
3. Run it through a spam-database check. A domain on blocklists kills email deliverability.
4. Verify the registrar lock status and that the seller actually controls the registrar account, not just DNS.
5. Confirm no trademark conflict in the name — a future legal challenge can erase the asset.
6. Check the domain isn't an exact-match clone of a bigger brand that could file a UDRP claim.
You inherit the entire history, not just the current site.
Save this — run it every deal.
