Myth: "Switch to a better tool and your metrics improve"
People migrate trackers expecting healthier numbers. I moved a project between two rank trackers and 'lost' average position overnight, with zero real change.
Different tools use different defaults: location granularity, device split, whether they strip personalization, desktop-vs-mobile crawler.
New tool:
➕ May genuinely have better data or features
➖ Resets your baseline, trends break, you can't compare across the switch
The correction: a 'worse' number after switching is usually a measurement-config difference, not a ranking drop. Match settings (country, language, device) before you panic.
Best for: switching when the old tool's data is genuinely worse, fine, but annotate the switch date. Switching expecting better numbers, you'll just confuse yourself.
Price-vs-value: the switch costs you historical continuity, factor that in.
Neutral, no links.
Pick a switch for real feature gains, and re-baseline. Skip switching to chase nicer-looking metrics.
