Myth: "Track position 1, that's where the CTR is"
Rank trackers center everything on the top spot. I pulled real GSC CTR against tracked positions on 300 queries.
With AI Overviews, site links and ads, position 1 organic now often sits below the fold. My #3 spots sometimes out-clicked #1.
Rank tracker (any):
➕ Tells you the ordinal position accurately
➖ Can't see SERP features pushing you down visually
Trackers with SERP-feature flags (AccuRanker, SE Ranking):
➕ Show if an AI Overview / featured snippet owns the top
➖ Costs a bit more
Best for: classic 10-blue-link SERPs, position is enough. Feature-heavy SERPs, position alone lies, you need the feature overlay + GSC CTR.
Price-vs-value: pay for SERP-feature tracking, not for prettier rank graphs. The myth assumes #1 still means top-of-page. It often doesn't.
Neutral.
Pick feature-aware tracking for modern SERPs. Skip raw position obsession.
