Myth: "Raise your DR/DA and rankings follow"
The most stubborn myth in tool-land. I watched a real site climb DR from 8 to 41 while target-page rankings barely moved.
DR (Ahrefs) and DA (Moz) are third-party scores predicting ranking ability, Google uses neither.
Ahrefs DR:
➕ Decent correlation signal for prospecting
➖ Domain-level, says nothing about your specific page
Moz DA:
➕ Familiar, widely cited
➖ Easy to inflate with junk links, score rises, rankings don't
Best for: comparing link prospects quickly, useful. As a KPI you optimize toward, you'll chase a vanity number.
Price-vs-value: don't pick a tool because its score 'goes up easier', that's a bug, not a feature. The correction: optimize page-level relevance and links to the page, not domain DR.
Affiliate-neutral.
Pick DR/DA to rank prospects. Skip it as a goal metric, it's a thermometer, not a thermostat.
