Is bounce rate hurting my rankings?
Q: My bounce rate is high and I'm worried it's tanking my SEO. Is it?
A: Short answer: no — bounce rate is not a ranking factor. Longer answer: this myth refuses to die. Bounce rate is a Google Analytics metric Google's search side doesn't even use, and a high bounce often means the opposite of failure. If someone searches "what's the boiling point of water," reads your answer, and leaves satisfied, that's a great result with a 100% bounce. Chasing low bounce by burying the answer or adding pop-ups makes the experience worse. Watch metrics that reflect real satisfaction — did people find what they came for? — not a vanity number that punishes pages for answering quickly. Optimize for the searcher's task, not for the dashboard.
