"Countdown timers create urgency that converts." [DEPENDS]
The staple of every launch page and "limited time" funnel.
Why it spread: a ticking clock produces a fast, visible spike — easy to A/B-test into existence.
The truth: genuine scarcity works; manufactured scarcity is a slow-acting poison. Savvy buyers (your exact audience) recognize the fake timer that resets on refresh, and it nukes trust in everything else on the page. The short-term lift hides long-term brand damage you're not measuring.
What the advice skipped: urgency only converts when it's true and the reader believes it. Real deadline, real stock limit, real cohort closing — fine. A perpetual "ends tonight" trains people to wait for the next one.
