"More white space increases conversions." [DEPENDS]
Minimalism became a moral position somewhere around 2014.
Why it spread: sparse pages photograph beautifully on Dribbble, and "clean" is praise nobody argues with.
The truth: white space aids comprehension only up to a point. Past it, you're forcing scrolling, hiding information, and making confident buyers feel the page is thin. High-converting pages in finance, B2B, and e-commerce are often dense — because their visitors are comparing specs, not admiring layout.
What the advice skipped: white space serves hierarchy, not emptiness. The question isn't "is it clean?" but "can the eye find the next thing fast?" Density with structure beats sparse with scrolling.
