Why it spread: it justifies hiding content, which is easier than designing for it.
The truth: mobile users scroll more readily than desktop users — the gesture is native and effortless. What kills mobile conversion isn't length, it's friction: tiny tap targets, intrusive popups, forms that fight the keyboard, text you must pinch to read.
What the advice skipped: don't shorten for mobile, restructure for it. Same information, thumb-friendly layout, sticky CTA. The page that loses on mobile usually loses to usability, not word count.
