"More testimonials means more proof." [MOSTLY MYTH]
The instinct: stack 20 quotes, overwhelm doubt with volume.
Why it spread: testimonials are cheap to collect and adding more feels safer than editing.
The truth: past three or four, testimonials hit diminishing returns and start reading as filler — generic five-star "Great product!" quotes actively lower credibility because they pattern-match to fake reviews. The brain weighs the weakest quote, not the average.
What the advice skipped: one specific, slightly imperfect testimonial ("Took two weeks to set up, then saved us 11 hours a week") beats twenty glowing ones. Believable specificity, not volume. Cut your worst testimonial before adding a new one.
