Myth: pick one narrow niche or the algorithm punishes you
The question: does mixing topics confuse the algorithm and tank reach, or is the 'one lane only' rule overstated for B2B?
The advice assumes a rigid topical classifier that penalizes variety. The interest graph is real — LinkedIn does infer what your audience comes for — but it's probabilistic and tolerant of adjacency, not a single-tag prison.
Three findings:
— Audiences follow a person for a point of view across related topics, not one keyword; tightly adjacent range (e.g. demand gen, attribution, positioning) reads as coherent, not confused.
— Total topical whiplash (B2B SaaS one day, fitness the next) does dilute the audience signal and depress reach — that part of the myth holds.
— A signature recurring theme plus occasional range often beats monotony, which fatigues even relevant followers.
Caveats: 'how adjacent is too adjacent' is unmeasured and account-specific; classifier behavior is opaque. Directional.
Bottom line: the rule should be 'one audience', not 'one topic'. Stay coherent for the people you serve, and you can roam across the problems they actually have.
