Controversial but: before you chase a single backlink, you should max out internal equity to the target. It's free and you control it.
The boost playbook:
— Identify the target money page.
— Crawl and list every internal page that already links to it. Probably fewer than you think.
— Find your 10 highest-authority pages, most internal/external links, oldest, best-ranking.
— Add contextual body links from those strong pages to your target, with varied descriptive anchors.
— Re-check rankings in 2-3 weeks before spending a dollar on outreach.
You're sitting on equity. Spend it on what pays before you go begging externally.
