Myth: you must post daily to keep a channel alive
The "consistency" gospel says post every day or die. The retention data finds the relationship is non-linear and easy to overshoot.
What the data shows
Up to a point, regular posting correlates with retention. Past it, posting frequency and unsubscribe rate rise together. In broadcast-channel datasets, the sharpest unsubscribe spikes cluster around high-frequency, low-signal posting — multiple forgettable posts a day. Channels posting fewer but higher-saved items often retain better. It's signal-per-post, not posts-per-day, that tracks survival.
Why it happens
Each post is an interruption that must justify itself. Daily filler trains the audience that your notifications are usually skippable — and that learned habit is hard to reverse.
The caveat
Niche matters enormously: a news/signals channel genuinely needs frequency; an analysis channel doesn't. And "saves" and "forwards" are imperfect quality proxies. Still, the overshoot risk is real and under-discussed.
Open question: is there a measurable "forgettable post" threshold — a saves-per-view floor below which a post is net-negative because of the unsubscribes it triggers?
