Most arbitrageurs position themselves like everyone else: "We run profitable campaigns." Then they compete on price. If your offer is indistinguishable, you're trapped in a race to the bottom.
Strong positioning answers one question: Why should a client choose you over someone cheaper? Not because you're "experienced" or "professional"—those are table stakes. Position yourself around what you actually do differently:
• Speed to scale — you launch campaigns in 48 hours while competitors take a week
• Specific vertical mastery — you only work with e-commerce brands, not finance, not lead gen
• Owned traffic channel — you have direct relationships with publishers competitors can't access
• Lower payback period — your average client breaks even in 14 days, not 30
• Hands-on management — you personally oversee top accounts instead of delegating
Your position must be provable. Not "we're data-driven" (everyone claims that). But "we audit competitors' accounts before pitching and show clients 3 missed revenue opportunities" — that's specific and credible.
The trap: trying to appeal to everyone. If you position for "all types of clients," you position for none. A client hiring for e-commerce looks for someone who's done e-commerce. A brand needing fast scaling doesn't care that you also offer long-term strategy.
Pick one positioning pillar. Build your sales pitch, case studies, and intake process around it. You'll attract clients who value that thing and repel those who don't. Your rates go up. Your sales cycle shortens. Competition stops mattering.
