Surveys sent to current fans confirm what you hoped. The expensive gap sits with people who looked and walked away, and they rarely fill in your form.
Where honest signal hides:
— buyers who churned and will tell you why if asked plainly;
— prospects who chose a competitor;
— support tickets, which are unfiltered research nobody scheduled.
Research that only flatters the plan is not research, it is reassurance with a chart attached.
Seek the people who said no. Their reasons cost less to learn now than later, and the churned buyer or the lost prospect will usually tell you the exact objection your happy customers never had to voice.
