MYTH: "More meetings fix misalignment."
The correction: misalignment is almost always a missing owner, not a missing meeting. Adding a sync hides the gap instead of closing it.
SOP: Killing a recurring sync
Run this whenever a standing meeting feels like status theater.
Stage 1 — Diagnose
— ☐ List every reason this meeting exists. (Owner: meeting organizer)
— ☐ Tag each reason: decision, status, or unblock. (Owner: organizer)
Stage 2 — Reroute
— ☐ Status items move to a written async update, due before the old slot. (Owner: each contributor)
— ☐ Unblock items get a named owner and a channel, not a calendar invite. (Owner: organizer)
— ☐ Decision items keep a meeting only if a true decision is due. (Owner: decision owner)
Stage 3 — Cut
— ☐ Cancel the recurring invite; book single-use slots when a decision is pending. (Owner: organizer)
Owner: meeting organizer. Trigger: a sync has no decision on the agenda twice running. Done-when: status is written, not spoken.
Save this. Run it every time.
