Myth: link every page to every other page to spread authority
"Maximize internal links" sounds like maximizing flow. PageRank math says the opposite: each link splits a page's authority, so more outbound internal links means less per link.
A page with 5 internal links passes meaningful equity to each; the same page with 80 sitewide footer links dribbles it across all of them. Mega-menus and "related posts" widgets that fire on every page create a flat link graph where nothing is prioritized — search engines can't tell which pages you consider important.

Nuance: too few links creates orphans (pages with no path to them), which is worse. The target is a deliberate hierarchy, not maximum or minimum count.
