Myth: adding author bios and credentials boosts E-E-A-T rankings

Myth: adding author bios and credentials boosts E-E-A-T rankings

Teams bolt author boxes, headshots, and "reviewed by an MD" badges onto pages expecting a ranking lift. The signal is weaker and more indirect than sold.

E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trust) is a framework from Google's Quality Rater Guidelines — instructions for human raters who score sample results. Raters don't touch the live index. E-E-A-T is not a measurable on-page score the algorithm reads off your author box.

What the algorithm can detect is the entity behind the byline: does this author exist across the web, with citations, a Wikidata entry, publications? An author box for a name that appears nowhere else adds markup, not authority.

— Invest in making authors real, citable entities (bylines elsewhere, mentions, a sameAs trail)
— A schema author field pointing to a non-existent entity is theater

Caveat: author markup may help disambiguation and rich results — minor real value. Just not the direct "trust score" boost imagined.
Confidence: medium
