Large template-driven sites should generate structured data from the same source that renders each page. Start with a field map for every template: required properties, allowed values, fallback rules, and fields that must never be guessed. Keep the output tied to page type, not URL patterns alone.
Build the generator in layers:
— Normalize source data before creating JSON-LD.
— Use separate templates for Product, Article, FAQ, and BreadcrumbList.
— Omit properties when the source is empty; do not publish placeholder text.
— Add stable IDs so related entities can be connected.
Validate a representative sample from every template, including pages with missing images, multiple variants, discontinued items, and unusual text. Then monitor generated markup separately from rankings: log schema type, validation errors, and template changes. A small canary set helps catch a bad deployment before it spreads sitewide.
Automation is reliable only when exceptions are designed in. Give editors a controlled override, preserve the raw source value for debugging, and make validation part of the publishing workflow rather than a manual cleanup step.
