Start in the Performance report and filter by Search appearance. Review clicks, impressions, CTR, and average position together. A CTR change means little if impressions or the query mix changed.
Break results down by page, query, device, and country. Find pages with impressions but weak click-through, then inspect their titles and snippets. Compare equivalent ranges; do not diagnose a site from one query or URL.
Use Enhancements reports as a separate check. They show detected markup issues and validation status, not guaranteed rich-result traffic. Inspect representative URLs and confirm that structured data matches the visible page content.
Keep a change log for templates, content, and markup. After each change, monitor affected pages and the relevant Search appearance type. Consistent exports with the same dimensions make trends easier to trust.
Treat Search Console as two linked dashboards: Enhancements measures eligibility, while Performance measures outcomes. Valid markup is a prerequisite, not a promise of a rich result.
