Q: Dedicated affiliate managers or a self-serve portal for partners?
Segment your partners and serve them differently — doing one thing for everyone wastes money on one end and loses revenue on the other.
— Self-serve (good docs, instant link generation, automated payouts, a dashboard) is right for the long tail. Most partners send little volume and a human touching each one isn't worth the salary. Make them self-sufficient.
— A dedicated manager is for the head of your program — the 20 partners driving most revenue. They get a real person who shares creatives, flags new offers, negotiates rate bumps, and solves problems same-day.
The ROI math is simple: a manager who lifts your top 20 partners 15% pays for themselves many times over. The same manager hand-holding 500 tiny accounts loses you money.
Caveat: even self-serve partners need a responsive support inbox. 'Self-serve' can't mean 'unreachable' — payment questions must get answered.
