That's the most expensive myth in this business. The top affiliates rarely pick the highest payout — they pick the highest validated EPC, which is commission times conversion times approval rate.
Why outbidding backfires:
— A 50% commission on a page that converts at 0.5% loses to 30% on a page converting at 2%.
— Sky-high payouts attract incentive abusers and coupon arbitrageurs, not quality traffic.
— You set a ceiling you can't sustain, then a cut later burns trust.
What to do instead: invest the margin into conversion rate (better landers, faster checkout), tighter approval flows, and reliable on-time payouts. Those move an affiliate's real earnings more than a few points of rate.
Caveat: in a brand-new program with no track record, a temporary launch bump is fair — just label it as time-boxed so nobody expects it forever.

Q: Everyone says "offer the highest commission to win the best affiliates." Should I just outbid?
