Geo Pulse #42 — Checking foreign SERPs: four methods, ranked by honesty
Theme of the week: what your rank tracker shows you is not what a local sees.
— gl/hl URL params (google.com/search?gl=de&hl=de) → fastest, free, but only fakes country + language, not the user's physical location. Good for a 10-second sanity check.
— uule parameter → encodes a real city centroid into the request, so you get city-level SERPs without a proxy. Underused and worth bookmarking.
— Rank trackers with local nodes (Nightwatch, Whitespark for local pack) → reliable for ongoing monitoring; verify they actually have a node in-country, not just a proxy claiming to.
— Real in-country residential session → the only thing that surfaces personalized + carrier-injected results. Save it for high-stakes GEO launches.
Takeaway: uule beats gl when you care about local pack and Maps; gl is enough for organic-blue-link spot checks.
