You ignored the reporter's instructions and got skipped
Queries often include rules: "answer in 2-3 sentences," "include your data," "no PR firms." Beginners skim past these and break them, which is an instant reason to delete.
Think of it like a recipe contest where you ignored "must contain apples." Disqualified before tasting.
1. Read the query to the very last line — instructions often hide at the bottom.
2. Follow the format exactly, even if you prefer a different one.
3. If they ask for a specific thing (a stat, a tip, a quote), give exactly that, clearly labeled.
Following directions signals you'll be easy to work with. Reporters strongly prefer sources who make their job simpler.
Try this today: On your next query, find one instruction you'd normally overlook. Build your reply specifically to satisfy it.
