Weekly digest vs real-time feed: retention by member attention
How members consume your community changes who stays.
Real-time feed (live channel):
☐ Use for high-engagement, always-on members.
☐ Strength: immediacy, conversation, FOMO keeps actives checking in.
☐ Weakness: overwhelms the casual; they fall behind, feel guilty, mute, then leave.
Weekly digest (curated summary):
☐ Use to retain the busy and the casual.
☐ Strength: low pressure, catches everyone up, reactivates lapsers without a DM.
☐ Weakness: delayed, no live energy, and a bad digest is just noise in their inbox.
The tradeoff: real-time serves your core and loses your edges; digest serves your edges and bores your core.
Run both, segmented. Actives live in the feed; the dormant and casual get the digest. The digest is your cheapest retention loop for members who would otherwise silently churn.
Save this for your next launch.
