'This offer ends today' vs your power to walk away
In negotiation, urgency cuts both ways. A brand may use a deadline ('budget closes Friday') to rush you. Your strongest counter-tool is the calm willingness to walk away.
Why it matters: a real deadline is fine, but fake urgency is just pressure to make you skip the math and accept less. Being ready to say 'no thanks' is the one move that can't be argued with, and it often brings a better offer back.
Simple example: 'We need a yes today at $500.' You reply, 'I understand. My rate for this is $800. If today doesn't work at that, no worries, reach out next time.' Many brands return with $750.
Your move: never let someone else's clock set your price. Walking away is a tool, not a failure.
