Geo Pulse #55 — Your "Tier-1" GEO might be a VPN exit node
Theme: GEO data poisoning that fakes premium traffic.
→ Counting datacenter IPs as real geo. A chunk of "US" or "DE" traffic is VPN/proxy exit nodes — the user's real GEO, offer fit, and language are all wrong. Fix: enrich IPs with a connection-type flag (residential / datacenter / hosting) before you trust the country.
→ Why it matters for offers. A VPN'd user sees a US offer but can't complete a US-only KYC or payment step. High clicks, zero conversions, looks like a bad source.
→ Symptom to watch. One GEO with normal CTR but anomalous bounce on the payment/KYC step is often masked traffic, not bad creative.
→ Tooling pointer. IP intelligence providers (IPinfo, MaxMind, IP2Location) all expose a usage-type/proxy field. Filter on it, don't just read the country. Source: the docs of any IP-enrichment vendor.
