Myth: usage rights are just paperwork
Many new creators wave through "perpetual usage rights" because it sounds like a formality. It's actually the most expensive line in the contract.
Usage rights = how long, and where, the brand can run your content (their ads, website, billboards).
Why it matters: "perpetual" means forever. "Whitelisting" means they run paid ads from your handle. Each one is real money you're giving away free.
Simple example: $500 for a post is fine. $500 for a post the brand runs as ads for 3 years is a giveaway.
Your move: when you see "perpetual" or "in perpetuity," reply: "Happy to discuss — what's the rights fee on top of content?"
