Google thinks you're someone else

Google thinks you're someone else

Today's lesson: an entity is just a real-world thing Google keeps a file on — a person, company, or place. Knowledge panels (those summary boxes) are built from these files.

Real example: two coffee shops named Daily Grind exist, and Google mixes their hours, photos, and reviews into one messy panel.

The mistake: businesses with a common name never tell Google clearly who they are, so it merges them or picks the wrong one.

The fix:
— Use the exact same name, address, and phone on every page and profile.
— Add sameAs links — a code line listing your official social and Wikipedia pages — so Google connects the right dots.
— Keep your category specific: Vegan bakery, not just Food.

Think of it like a name tag at a reunion. Two Bobs need last names, or people greet the wrong one.

Try this: search your brand name and check the panel actually describes YOU. 🎓
